Unpopular opinion: I started washing my clippers with a toothbrush and it made a bigger difference than new blades
I know this sounds dumb but hear me out. About 3 weeks ago I was cutting a regular's hair and my clippers kept snagging on the back of his neck, which never happens because I keep them oiled every night. I was this close to dropping $45 on new blades when my uncle, who ran a shop in Sacramento for 22 years, told me to take a stiff toothbrush and really dig out the hair packed under the blade. I did it and honestly the amount of gunk that came out was nasty. Ran the same blades again the next day and they cut smooth like they were new. Now I do the toothbrush thing every Friday before the weekend rush and I haven't changed blades in over a month. Was I just an idiot for not knowing this, or did everyone else learn this in barber school? Any of you got a cleaning routine that goes beyond the little brush that comes in the box?
