Hit $250K in payment volume but my margins shrank, nobody warned me about this

After 14 months running a small trade business I finally crossed the $250,000 mark in card processing volume. Everyone talks about growth like it is the only goal but my net take home actually dropped 3% last quarter because of interchange fees and chargeback reserves. I had to hire a bookkeeper just to track all the new fee categories that showed up once I got past certain volume tiers. The bank that signed me up never mentioned that pricing changes as you scale, they just kept saying congrats on hitting milestones. Has anyone else watched their effective rate creep up at a specific volume and found a processor that actually holds rates steady?

Switching processors after hitting same tier saved me 1.2% on fees.
