A cashier at Walmart told me her grandma lost $2,000 to a phone scam
I was checking out last Friday and this cashier started telling me about her grandma. Some guy called pretending to be from her bank. He said there was fraud on her account and she needed to move her money to a "safe" account right away. She panicked and did exactly what he said. The cashier said her grandma cried for hours after she found out it was fake. The bank told her they couldn't do anything since she authorized the transfer herself. It stuck with me because it could happen to anyone when you're caught off guard. Has anyone else heard stories like this close to home?

These scams prey on the trust we're taught to have in authority figures.

Saw a news segment about a fake IRS call operation that stole millions from older folks like that.
