The great tomato debate: determinate or indeterminate for a small space

I had to choose between a compact determinate variety or a sprawling indeterminate one for my 4-foot balcony. I went with the determinate 'Patio Choice Yellow' and got a nice, manageable harvest over about six weeks. Anyone have a favorite compact tomato that still gives a good yield?

Went with 'Tiny Tim' last year and it was a hilarious lesson in scale. The plant itself stayed adorably small, like a bonsai tomato, but then it pumped out a comical number of cherry tomatoes. I was literally picking a handful every other day from this tiny pot. The yield was shockingly good for the space it took up. My main issue was keeping it watered, those little guys are thirsty.

You said your main issue was keeping it watered, but that's actually a pot size problem, not a plant problem. A tiny pot dries out super fast no matter what you grow. If you try a bigger container next time, like a five gallon bucket, you'll cut your watering work in half. The roots have more room to spread out and hold moisture.
