That older lady in 3B who grew tomatoes on a south-facing railing for 20 years

She told me last summer that she never waters from above, just pours a full watering can into the saucer under each pot. It sounded weird but my cherry tomatoes stopped splitting after I tried it. Anyone else water from the bottom like that?

Blamed the soil pH for years until my neighbor caught me dumping coffee grounds in every pot. Told her it was a secret family recipe. She just walked away shaking her head.

Ever try mixing in some crushed eggshells with those coffee grounds? I was reusing old potting soil for years and nothing grew until I started tossing in crushed eggshells and a handful of used coffee grounds. My tomatoes went from sad and yellow to actually producing fruit. My neighbor still thinks I'm weird but at least my plants don't look like they're dying anymore.
