Switched from store-bought soil to mixing my own for my balcony tomatoes
Used to grab whatever bag was on sale, but after two seasons of sad plants I started blending my own with compost and perlite. Has anyone else noticed a big difference after changing their soil mix?

Figured my soil was fine till my tomatoes looked like they gave up on life mid-season.

Three dollars for a bag of compost changed everything for me. @christopher_west1 that mid-season meltdown is the worst, I lost two plants to blossom end rot. Switched to a 50/50 mix with perlite and now my cherry tomatoes actually make it to August. Store soil is just too dense for pots, drains like concrete.
