My entire basil crop got fried in a sudden heatwave last Tuesday!
I was at my apartment in Phoenix, and I came home to find all my potted basil on the south-facing balcony completely wilted and brown. I thought it was a total loss, but I cut every stem back to about an inch above the soil and gave them a deep soak. To my shock, I saw new green leaves starting three days later. Has anyone else brought a plant back from looking that dead?

Wow, that's wild! I've definitely given up on plants that looked way less dead than that. It's amazing how tough some herbs can be when you give them a chance.

Cut them back to an inch? I would have just thrown the whole pot out. That's some serious plant willpower.
