My sourdough starter looked dead for a week, then it came back to life
I left my starter on the counter for a week while I was out of town, and it was a flat, gray mess when I got back. I fed it once a day for three days with just bread flour and water, and nothing happened. On the fourth day, I switched to using warm filtered water from my Brita pitcher. The next morning, it had doubled in size and was full of bubbles. Has anyone else saved a starter by just changing the water?

Totally, water makes a huge difference. My tap water has a lot of chlorine and it would just kill the activity. I started using the cheap bottled spring water from the grocery store and it was like night and day. The starter got way more bubbly and active almost right away. It's crazy how one small change can fix everything.
