PSA: That old hammock stand you've been ignoring? It's a PERFECT trellis.
I was about to throw out a rusty hammock frame from my parents' yard last weekend, but my sister said try it for my pole beans. Three weeks later and the whole thing is COVERED in vines and it saved me $40 on a new wooden trellis. Has anyone else repurposed random metal stuff for garden support?

My buddy used an old bed frame for tomatoes last year. Worked great.

My neighbor did this with an old wrought iron headboard and it actually ended up rusting weirdly fast because the paint was peeling. The rust got into the soil and messed up some of his plants. He said the metal was probably old and had lead paint too which is scary. Just a heads up if you try it, maybe strip it down and repaint with something safe for gardens first. The bed frame idea itself is smart for saving money though.
