Neighbor said put gravel under deck for drainage. 6 months later it's a mud pit.

Guy next door has had a deck for 10 years. Told me just throw down crushed stone, it'll drain fine. Did exactly that last spring. Now every time it rains water pools under there. Mud everywhere. Gotta rip it all out and do a proper french drain. Anyone else get bad advice from a neighbor and regret it?

Gotta agree with you here. My neighbor told me to just throw gravel under my porch too. Same thing happened, turned into a muddy mess after one rainy season. I ended up ripping it all out and doing a french drain with a sloped pipe like that other guy said. Night and day difference, water flows right out now. Wish I had just done it right the first time instead of listening to some guy who's been lucky with his own setup.

French drain fixed it for me. Dug a trench with a sloped pipe and gravel, never had standing water again.
