Quail waterer changed my whole run setup

I was at a farm swap in Eugene last month and this older guy had quail chicks in a little cage. He used those tiny cup waterers instead of the big plastic ones I had. Saw zero spillage in like 2 hours of watching. Swapped all 3 of my chicken waterers for the 1-cup kind. Now my run floor stays dry and I'm not scrubbing mud off the eggs every morning. Anyone else use cup waterers with full size hens?

Oh wow, that's a smart swap but here's something nobody talks about... the cup waterers actually cut down on fly problems in the summer too. Less standing water sitting in the tray means fewer places for mosquitoes and gnats to breed. I switched two years ago and my coop smells way better during the hot months. Plus the chickens can't tip them over when they scratch around, so you're not dealing with soaked bedding every other day. The only downside is refilling them more often, but honestly it's worth it to not deal with the gross sludge that builds up in those big troughs.
