My coop's 'small' rat hole turned into a three day nightmare

I saw a hole about the size of a quarter under the nesting box last Tuesday. Figured I'd just stuff it with steel wool and be done in ten minutes. Wrong. I pulled the box out and found a whole network of tunnels in the dirt floor, and they'd chewed into the wall framing. I had to pull up the whole floor, lay hardware cloth, and rebuild that corner. Has anyone else had a tiny problem blow up like that?

My buddy's "quick fix" for a mouse hole cost him like @gavinperez's worst guess, plus a whole weekend.

Man, those weekend projects always end up being way more than you think. The time and extra trips to the store really add up. It's a tough lesson to learn.
