Spotted a weird bird pattern at the Portland arboretum

I was there last weekend and saw a big group of robins, maybe 30, all moving together in the grass. They were not feeding, just hopping in a line like a little parade. Has anyone else seen robins act like this before?

Weird. Saw a flock of starlings do something similar once. All on a power line, turning their heads at the same time. Creeped me out.

That's a cool sighting. @skylerg17 is right about the group behavior. Birds do that sometimes, moving as one unit. It's often about safety, like watching for predators. Robins might be doing a group forage, even if it looks like a parade. Makes them harder for a hawk to pick off. Nature is pretty smart that way.
