Honestly thought those cheap suet feeders were a waste of money

Ngl, I bought a basic wire one for like $8 last fall and figured the birds would ignore it. But after putting it up near my oak tree, I had downy woodpeckers on it within a day, and now a pair of red-bellied woodpeckers visit every morning. What simple thing did you try that actually worked way better than you expected?

Suet is actually great for woodpeckers.

But what about the squirrels, don't they just destroy them?

Yeah, but suet feeders are squirrel-proof!
