Overheard a CFO say one thing about our CRM data that made me question everything

Was at a networking event for local businesses in Austin last week. Standing near the coffee station and this CFO from a mid-size logistics firm told his colleague "our CRM is just an expensive address book." That hit me hard because I've been pushing my brokerage to upgrade our system for months. I realized I've been measuring the wrong things - focusing on features instead of whether the data actually drives decisions. Has anyone here had to convince leadership to clean up their CRM before upgrading?

Most people bought CRM software like a treadmill. Looks good in the corner but nobody actually runs on it. You gotta fix the bad habits before you buy the new machine.

Honestly that "expensive address book" line cuts deep because it's true for so many companies.
