Bought a $200 fiber optic borescope to check a wire bundle behind a panel
It was for a job on a King Air in Wichita where we had a weird comms drop. The thing was so floppy it kept curling back on itself like a scared snake. My boss saw the monitor and just said, 'Are you looking for a tumor in there?' Anyone have a brand that actually stays straight?

People forget the time cost. Even if the money is gone, maybe your buddy learned what not to do next time. That lesson has value. It stops him from making a bigger, more expensive mistake later. Sometimes the waste isn't in the money spent, but in not learning anything from the loss.
