A retired guy at the hangar in Tucson got me thinking about old test gear

Ran into a guy named Carl who used to work on F-4 Phantoms. He said they used to have to calibrate a whole cart of analog test sets before even starting a job. Now we just plug in a laptop. It hit different because he wasn't complaining, just stating a fact. Made me appreciate how much the job has changed. Anyone else have stories about the old ways of doing things?

Tbh that analog gear needed a real touch. You had to know the quirks of each meter and scope. Ngl I miss that hands-on feel sometimes, even if the new way is faster. Makes you respect the guys who kept those birds flying with just a screwdriver and a manual.

Right? My grandpa had similar stories about old radios.
