Just realized I've been overthinking dent pulls for years

My buddy's kid, who's maybe 12, was watching me work on a fender and said, 'Why don't you just suck it out like a cartoon?' I laughed, but then I actually tried a new slide hammer technique on a tricky spot and it worked way better. Anyone have a favorite 'dumb' idea that actually worked out?

My cousin's kid said the same thing about using a toilet plunger on a car door dent last summer. We all laughed until it actually popped the dent right out with some soapy water for a seal. Sometimes the simplest visual is the best fix. I've been in the body shop game for fifteen years and still get schooled by a random kid's idea. It's a good reminder not to make the job harder than it needs to be.

No kidding, I saw a video of a guy using a hot glue gun and some pull tabs on a dent. Same basic idea, just using what's around. Works way better than you'd expect.

That part about being schooled by a random kid's idea really hits home. I've caught myself overthinking a simple paint blend or a trim clip, ordering some special tool, when a butter knife from the kitchen drawer would have done the trick. It's easy to get stuck in your own ways after years in the shop. Those moments when a simple fix works are a good knock back down to earth.
