I switched from hand sanding to a dual action sander for feathering edges about 3 years ago and it cut my time in half.

Saw a video once where a guy called hand sanding feather edges "the stone age method." He was right. The DA sander is just so much more consistent, you don't get those low spots. It feels like cheating after doing it by hand for so long.
