Warning: I used to think light pollution was no big deal until I saw these pics
I always figured bright city lights were just part of modern life and didn't hurt anything. Then someone in this group posted side by side shots of the same constellation from downtown and a rural area. The rural photo had so many more stars and details I never knew were up there. It really clicked how much we're missing and how it messes with nature too. Now I'm totally for using shielded lights and turning off unnecessary ones at night.

Seriously, my friend went camping out west last year and called me almost crying. She said she looked up and the sky was just...full. Like a totally different layer of the world she never saw from the suburbs. Came back and made her whole neighborhood switch to those dark sky friendly porch lights.

Wow, my motion-activated porch light lets me see way more stars now.

Remember thinking all those bright lights were just part of city life? I totally did until I saw those comparison shots online! It hit me how much beauty we're blocking out. @kelly321's story about her friend seeing the full sky out west really drove it home for me. Now I make sure to use shielded lights at home and turn off extra ones. The difference is amazing, like seeing a whole new layer of stars at night!
