My cousin told me my deep space shots were 'just black with dots'

We were at a family thing in Denver last month and I was showing him a photo I took of the Andromeda Galaxy from my backyard. I spent like 4 hours on it, stacking 90 second exposures. He looked at my phone for maybe two seconds and said, 'Cool, I guess. Looks like black with some dots.' Didn't even ask about the gear or the process, just shrugged and went back to talking about football. It's not that I need praise, but it felt like he didn't even try to see what was there. Makes you wonder why you bother sharing this stuff sometimes. Has anyone else had a friend or family member just totally not get it?

Maybe he just saw what was actually there. Not everyone gets excited about dots in the dark.

Okay "dots in the dark" is a funny way to put it, tessa177. But honestly, if someone isn't excited, they might just need a better view. I've found the trick is to get them to actually look for a minute, not just a quick glance. Let their eyes adjust and pick out one specific spot. Sometimes people dismiss stuff because they haven't really seen it yet. A little patience can turn those dots into something pretty cool.
