My astro pics cleared up after I tackled light pollution

Was out last night trying to get shots of Orion, but the glare from nearby buildings made everything look washed out. Read up on how light pollution messes with astronomy and wastes energy big time. Got some motion-sensor lights for my place and talked to neighbors about it. Now my photos have way more detail, and we're using less power. Kinda neat how fixing one hobby thing can help the environment too.

Check your streetlights too, some towns will install shields or swap to warmer LEDs if you ask. I switched my porch bulb to a narrow-spectrum amber one and it cut the glare in my backyard by half.

True! That amber bulb idea is smart. I never thought about the color of light making that much difference until I saw a neighbor use one. The blue-white LEDs everyone uses now are harsh and make everything look flat. Warmer light feels calmer and actually lets you see details better at night. More people should try swapping their bulbs.

My old apartment had those awful blue streetlights. They made the whole block look like a hospital parking lot. I swapped my porch bulb for a 2700K amber one and it was like night and day, no pun intended. You could actually see the steps and not just a wall of glare. Now I judge a neighborhood by how orange the glow is after dark.
