Can we talk about paying for a local guidebook in Reykjavik

Everyone says to skip them and just ask around, but the $25 Lonely Planet I bought at the airport saved me from a bad meal and a closed museum. Has anyone else found a guidebook actually worth the cash?

Honestly, that's the most generic travel advice ever. Might as well tell you to remember to breathe while you're out there. Sounds like your guidebook phoned it in big time.
