Was skeptical about ultrasonic cleaners for small appliance parts, now I'm converted

I never thought a $120 ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight would actually make a difference, but after I ran a circuit board from a dead microwave in there with some Simple Green, it started working again. A guy in a forum told me to try it after I spent 3 hours chasing a ghost short, and now I use the thing every week for gas valve parts and control boards. Anyone else have a tool they were totally against at first but now rely on?

Did I ever think I'd be that guy cleaning carburetors in his garage with a gadget from late night TV?

Mark, you had me at "late night TV gadget." I had the exact same feeling when my neighbor handed me a plastic ultrasonic cleaner that looked like it came in a cereal box. I figured it was a gimmick for people who think vinegar and baking soda can fix a transmission. Then I dropped a corroded furnace control board into the thing and watched it come out looking like it just rolled off the assembly line. Now I'm that guy who gets excited about cleaning jets and nozzles with a machine that sounds like a dentist's drill in a fish tank. I guess sometimes the late night stuff actually works, but I still won't touch a ShamWow.
