Fridge evaporator fan noise turned out to be a puddle, not the motor
Last week I had a Whirlpool in Tacoma that sounded like a squeaky shopping cart every 20 minutes. Replaced the fan motor, still made the noise, so I pulled the rear panel again and found a slow defrost drain leak pooling right under the motor mount. Dried it out, cleared the drain line with a piece of 14 gauge wire, and the unit has been quiet for 6 days now. Anyone else run into moisture causing false fan failures before swapping the whole assembly?

...so my buddy had the exact same thing happen with his GE. Swapped the motor, checked the wiring, everything. Then he found a small puddle too. Said he felt like an idiot, but honestly, who thinks to check for water first, right?
