My friend in Chicago called my worm bin 'gross' and I had to set him straight
We were having a few beers at his place last week and I mentioned I'd started a small worm bin under my kitchen sink. He made a face and said, 'That's just gross, man, you're keeping garbage inside.' I told him my 2-gallon bin doesn't smell at all if you balance the greens and browns right, and it cuts my trash by half. Has anyone else had to defend their setup to a skeptical friend?

My cousin said the same thing about my compost pile. I showed her how it turns into dirt for her garden. She asked for worms the next week.

Turning into dirt is the whole point, but I've never seen the appeal of handing over worms like that. Once people know you have them, you become the worm guy forever. My neighbor still texts me about red wigglers every spring. It's a nice thought, but it just turns your compost into a community project.
