Just spent $40 on a fancy countertop bin and it was a total waste
I bought a ceramic 'odor-locking' compost caddy for my kitchen, but it still smells after two days and the lid is a pain. I'm back to using a repurposed plastic tub with a coffee filter in the bottom. Has anyone found a small bin that actually works?

I used to believe those pretty ceramic bins were the answer. My expensive one was a total letdown, just like yours. The smell always won. Now I just use an old plastic takeout container and empty it every single night. It's not pretty but it actually works. Fancy lids and promises are useless if the basics aren't right.
