Warning: That popular YouTuber's advice about subbing anime is wrong
Saw a big anime reviewer say you should always watch the subbed version first for the "authentic experience." Tried that approach for 3 months with shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. Turns out, I missed a ton of emotional impact because I couldn't keep up with the text while taking in the animation. Anyone else feel like dubs get unfairly hated on by the community?

Dubs are fine. Watched Demon Slayer dubbed and cried at the end just the same. Sub purists act like reading text is part of the art. It's not. It's just a barrier.

Hang on though, reading text isn't a barrier it's actually part of the original performance. The voice actors in the sub are delivering the lines exactly as the director and writers intended, with all the emotional beats built into the Japanese language. Dubs have to change the script to match mouth movements, so you're getting a slightly different story with different pacing. You still got emotional which is great, but don't you think the original performances matter too?
