Vent: I keep seeing people call any anime with a sad moment a 'psychological thriller' and it's starting to bug me.
After watching 'A Place Further Than the Universe' and seeing it labeled that way on three different forums, I realized a show dealing with grief isn't automatically in the same genre as something like 'Paranoia Agent', so what's a better way to categorize emotional but not dark anime?

People slap that label on everything now. Watched a show about baking bread that had one sad flashback, someone called it psychological horror. Just call it drama, that's the whole point of the category.

My local coffee shop has a sign calling their dark roast a "caffeine journey." It's the same thing. Every basic feeling gets a fancy label now to make it sound deeper. Sadness in a drama becomes "trauma," a tense moment is "horror." It just makes it harder to find the real stuff when everything is turned up to eleven. We're losing the simple words for normal human experiences.
