The anime club booth at Fanime felt different this year

I stopped by the old fan sub discussion table around 2pm on Saturday and nobody was trading burned DVDs anymore, everyone was just pulling up streams on their phones. Back in 2011 that same spot had this guy with a binder of 200 fansubbed episodes he'd trade for blank discs, and now it's all about crunchyroll codes. It got me thinking about how much the whole sharing side of the community has shifted, like we lost something real but gained way easier access. Anyone else miss the ritual of hunting down a specific fansub group's release?

Different take on this, the old hunting game was fun but it also locked out anyone without the right connections or time. That binder dude was cool but he was basically a gatekeeper for the rest of us casuals. Being able to just watch something legally without begging for a copy is the real win here.
