Picked 'Cowboy Bebop' over 'Evangelion' for a weekend rewatch and it was a weird call

I had two days off last month and couldn't decide which classic to revisit between those two big ones. Ended up going with Bebop because I remembered the soundtrack being more chill for a lazy Saturday. Thing is, I forgot how episodic it is and by Sunday I was kind of bored compared to the heavy drama I expected. Has anyone else picked a lighter show and regretted not going with the deeper one?

The first time I watched Bebop I had the same problem, the standalone episodes drag hard when you already know the format. Did you skip any filler episodes or just push through the whole 26? I think the movie is what actually saves the rewatch for me.

Push back on that a little, I actually like the standalone episodes more on rewatch. Stuff like the mushroom trip with the old man, that's where Bebop really breathes for me. The Vicious and Julia stuff is fine but it's so heavy, I need those lighter episodes to balance it out. The movie is great don't get me wrong, but it's just one long action set piece. I'd rather rewatch "Waltz for Venus" where Spike gets all philosophical about the cactus than sit through the movie again. To each their own though, your mileage may vary.

I absolutely feel you on this. Episode 15 or 16 with the random mushroom trip and the old man was a huge slog for me on rewatch, I almost stopped right there. I ended up just pushing through the whole 26 but honestly I skipped a couple of those early hunting bounty episodes on a second watch, they feel like total filler after you know how the real plot goes. The movie really is a lifesaver for rewatches though, it has that perfect mix of all the characters and the action without any of the boring stuff. I think it's the only part of the series I've watched more than twice because it just hits different.
