Friend said to skip episode 1 of Gurren Lagann, worst advice ever

I missed the whole setup for Simon's character arc and spent 4 episodes confused about why anyone cared about him.

Did your friend also skip the first episode of every other show they recommend? Because that is a wild take. The whole point of that first episode is to show you how small and scared Simon is, so when he starts drilling through everything later it actually means something. Missing that just leaves you wondering why a kid with a tiny drill is suddenly the main character.

Isn't it funny how people skip the setup in life too, like jumping into a new job without bothering to learn how the place actually works, then wondering why nothing makes sense?
