Pro tip: I was crimping Cat5 wrong for years until a job in Phoenix
I was on a big commercial job in Phoenix last month, helping another crew finish up. The lead guy watched me terminate a patch panel and just said, 'Your crimp tool is set too deep, you're cutting into the copper.' I was using a standard tool I've had forever. He showed me his, which had a different die, and let me test it. The connection was way more solid and the wire didn't look crushed. I realized I'd probably been causing weak points and intermittent faults for ages without knowing it. I ordered the right die head that night. Has anyone else had a simple tool setting mess up their work for a long time?

Tell me about it, I've been the king of bad crimps for years.
