I used to wire every single sensor back to the main panel, but after a 3-story retrofit in Chicago last month, I'm all in on wireless for certain spots.

Man, you are NOT wrong about batteries! I learned that lesson the hard way on a service call last year. The trick is to ONLY use wireless for those impossible spots, like a finished ceiling on the third floor or a historic brick wall. For everything else, especially in a new build, you run the wire. It's just peace of mind. Mixing both methods is the real pro move.

Got to push back on the wireless for everything idea. Batteries die at the worst times, and you can't beat a hardwired connection for reliability. That Chicago retrofit sounds like a nightmare to wire, so I get the choice there. But in a new build or a full gut job, why add future headaches? Wireless is a good fix for a tricky spot, not the whole system.
