Got a call about a panel that wouldn't stop beeping in a finished basement.
I was at a house in Springfield last month for a service call. The homeowner said their keypad was beeping every 30 seconds and they couldn't stop it. The panel was an older model tucked behind a finished wall in the basement, with just a tiny access panel. I squeezed in there and saw the backup battery was totally dead, which was causing the trouble beep. But when I went to pull the old battery out, the connector wires were so short and stiff I couldn't get a good grip. I ended up having to cut the zip ties holding the whole wire bundle, which gave me just enough slack to swap the battery. Took about 45 minutes in that tight space. Has anyone else run into a panel installed with no thought for future service like that? What's your go-to move when the wiring is too tight?

That bit about the short, stiff wires is way too familiar. I keep a set of those long, skinny needle nose pliers in my bag just for jobs like that. Sometimes you can hook the connector and pull it straight off if you get the right angle. What tools do you usually try first in a tight spot like that?
