Update: My neighbor's question about plane noise led to a better pre-flight check

Last week, my neighbor asked me about a weird humming sound from planes landing. It got me thinking about engine harmonics. I started paying more attention during pre-flight checks, and I noticed a similar sound on one of our birds. Turns out, it was a loose panel vibrating. Now, I make it a point to listen closely for any odd noises, not just the usual checks. It’s saved us a couple of times from bigger issues. Sharing this because sometimes outsiders point out things we take for granted. A quick chat with someone not in the trade can give you a new perspective on your routine.

Sometimes knowing too much makes you miss the obvious stuff right in front of you.

Yeah, that's the whole expert blind spot thing. You get so deep into the details you skip over the simple answer. It's like staring at a tree so hard you forget you're in a forest. Happens all the time.

Hey @robin_foster1, but what if knowing too much actually helps you notice the obvious stuff more?
