Pro tip: Don't buy the cheap torque wrenches from Harbor Freight for anything critical

I had to re-torque 40 bolts on a Cessna 172's landing gear assembly after mine drifted out of spec, costing me a full day's labor. What's a reliable brand you all trust for precision work?

That Harbor Freight story is a perfect example of why the right tool matters. It's like using a dollar store tape measure for building a house. The numbers might look right, but the whole project is off. For torque wrenches on something like an airplane, I've had good luck with Snap-on for daily use. Their click-type wrenches are consistent. For my own garage, a Proto or even a well-cared-for older Craftsman has never let me down. You just can't risk a critical fastener with a tool you don't trust.

Airplane work with a Harbor Freight torque wrench is a whole new level of scary. I saw a guy try to use one on a Cessna's wheel bolts once and the mechanic nearly had a heart attack. You're right about the old Craftsman stuff though, those things were built like tanks before they changed. What do you do when you need to calibrate your Snap-on, just send it back to the truck?
