My brother asked me why AI can't just 'get' sarcasm yet
We were talking about a chatbot that totally missed his joke last week. He said, 'It's like teaching a super smart kid who's never been teased.' That stuck with me because it frames the whole problem differently. How do you even start coding for that kind of human context?

Maybe the real problem is we can't even agree on what sarcasm is... we just feel it.

So if we can't even define it for ourselves, how do we ever teach it to a computer? The whole "feeling it" part comes from a lifetime of social cues and context we don't even fully get. That's a huge wall for AI to climb.

Yeah the "super smart kid who's never been teased" line really got me too. I used to think it was just about tone detection, but @sethmitchell is right that we can't even define it for ourselves. It's all about shared experiences we can't really code.
