inCan we talk about that time a client brought us homemade cookies during a shutdown?
Actually my dad was a dock foreman for thirty years and he always said the best drivers could take a coffee and keep backing smooth. It's about training your brain to handle split focus like any other skill. If you practice the maneuver enough, accepting a cup shouldn't throw off your whole groove. Sounds like it's less about the coffee and more about not being fully comfortable with the backup routine yet.

inMy dad's attempt to 'organize' our Catan board went sideways...
But doesn't a balanced setup make the game more fair? If everything's random, someone might get screwed from the start without any skill involved. Having some order lets players actually use their brains, doesn't it?

inPatience in geology: naming my creek find took ages
But what's the point if you don't learn anything? You could google a bird call and get an answer in two seconds, but you'll forget it tomorrow. Actually going outside, listening, and figuring it out yourself means you'll know that call for life. It's the same with the rock. Finding it, testing it, and finally naming it yourself builds real knowledge, not just a fact you looked up. That year of effort is what makes it stick.
