PSA: Abandoning my old 'finish first' mentality during spice trials led to a much richer (and less painful) hobby.

I've discovered that pacing myself and actually tasting the layers of heat (instead of just gulping it down) has not only boosted my genuine enjoyment but also oddly prepared me better for those insane final rounds.

Totally, learning to sip whiskey neat first showed me how that applies to hot sauces too.

Oh wow, that's such a spot-on comparison, @charles299. It's all about training your palate to appreciate the nuances instead of just the burn or the alcohol, right? I remember the first time I tried a craft hot sauce after getting into whiskey, and it totally changed how I approach flavor. Doesn't it feel like you're unlocking a secret level of tasting when you make those connections? Now I catch myself sipping hot sauce slowly just to pick apart the ingredients, same as with a good bourbon.

Tried sipping hot sauce like whiskey and regretted it instantly.
