Told my kid his finger painting was gallery worthy. His whole face lit up for a week. The tiny lie barely registers compared to that.

Honestly that guilt question misses the point. Kids figure out the truth later, but what @the_kelly's son will remember is that feeling of being believed in. The lie isn't really about the painting, it's about the boost. That fake confidence can become real when they try harder stuff later. So the smile is just the start of it.
