I solved our office movie poll chaos by posting a critic rating board in the break room.

See, that's why we stopped letting one person bring ratings into it. Last time someone pushed this highly rated indie film about a sad violin maker (93% on Rotten Tomatoes, by the way), and the room was just dead silent the whole time. Now we do a simple anonymous vote, no scores shown, or we take turns picking. Turns out most people just want to laugh at something dumb together, not get a lesson in cinema.

Critic scores can really kill the fun though. Plenty of awful superhero movies have fresh ratings, while dumb comedies everyone loves get panned. Putting up a score board just makes people pick the "right" movie instead of the one they actually want to watch. It turns a fun group vote into homework. Our last poll died because someone kept arguing that the high-rated choice was objectively better, even though it was a boring drama.

Turns group choice into peer pressure.
