Hot take: My inbox zero obsession cost me a well-planned vacation

In my pursuit of a clutter-free digital space, I aggressively deleted emails to reach inbox zero. I overlooked that some contained vital travel documents I hadn't saved elsewhere. This mistake has taught me that minimalism requires more caution than I anticipated.

Recognize that this obsession often masks a deeper anxiety about control. We purge emails to feel orderly, but that rush blinds us to what we might actually need. Now I'm questioning if any system is worth losing real-world plans over...

Seriously, the idea that email purging is about control hit me hard... Just last week I canceled dinner plans to 'organize' my inbox, and for what? A false sense of accomplishment that vanished by morning. Now I'm wondering what else I've missed chasing that clean slate feeling.

After I wiped out some key receipts in a purge, I started using the archive button as my default. It keeps the inbox clear but stores everything in a searchable folder, so nothing gets lost for good. Less thrilling than mass deletion, but way less likely to ruin my plans.
