Warning: Constant after-hours contact from leadership pushed me to the brink of quitting...
I used to think being always available was a badge of honor... but after months of anxiety from expecting messages at any hour, it became clear it's a trap. Setting strict communication boundaries wasn't rude, it was essential for my sanity. Now I mute all work apps after 6 PM, and my focus during core hours has improved dramatically... If you're in a similar boat, push back politely but firmly... your time off is yours to reclaim.

Honestly calling it "pushed to the brink of quitting" feels extreme for some after hours messages. Most jobs have some bleed into personal time, it's just the reality now. Setting boundaries is fine but acting like it's this mental health crisis seems over the top. I've worked places with way worse demands and just dealt with it. You mute apps at six, cool, but making it sound like a revolutionary act is a bit much.

My friend at a tech startup had her phone buzzing with emails all night. She developed insomnia and anxiety before finally setting hard boundaries. What seems minor to some can genuinely wreck your well being over time.

Hold on, is it really that bad for most people? I get a work email at night sometimes and just check it in the morning. A quick weekend reply doesn't send me into a spiral. It feels like every job thing is called a mental health crisis now. Setting a simple boundary is fine, but calling it the brink of quitting seems like a lot. Most professional jobs have some spillover, you just deal with it calmly.
