Totally feel that, I got turned around in dense fog once and my compass was the only thing that got me back to camp.

Last year in the Adirondacks, fog made everything disappear. Have you ever checked if local magnetic rocks mess with your compass?

Ever read how some places up there have weird magnetic fields that throw compasses off? Wonder if you've run into that.
