PSA: After a season working coastal sites, I've seen more rust on equipment.
Honestly, salt air eats through metal faster than you'd think.

Salt air is no joke. It creeps into all the tiny spaces you can't even see. I've had pliers lock up on me after just a few weeks near the water. Makes you clean and oil everything twice as often. Even then, some stuff is just doomed to rust out faster.

Faith601 is right about salt air creeping into spaces you can't see. Something people overlook is how it ruins things like the springs in lawn chairs or the tracks on sliding glass doors. I had a neighbor near the coast whose car door locks kept sticking no matter how much he cleaned them. That salty air gets everywhere, and it doesn't care if something is big or small. It just keeps working on metal until there's nothing left.

My uncle lived in Galveston for 20 years and his tools were fine with a little WD-40 now and then. I feel like people sometimes overstate the corrosion thing. It's not like your door locks turn to dust overnight.
