A neat poster I saw online made me wonder about inspiration limits
I was searching for poster ideas and saw a really neat design on a design blog. It used bright colors and simple shapes that stuck in my mind. For my own event poster, I tried a similar look with different text and images. But when I showed it to a friend, they pointed out it felt too much like the original. Now I'm stuck in a gray area about what's okay to take from others' work. The artist who made the first one probably put in a lot of effort. How do you all deal with this kind of tricky situation without copying?

Yeah, that gray area is the worst... inspiration vs. copying is so blurry. I usually mix ideas from a few places so it's not just one thing. Change the colors or fonts enough to feel new. If your friend noticed, maybe tweak those similar bits. The original artist worked hard, but we all stand on others' shoulders. Just make sure your version has your own voice in it.

Navigating that gray area is like a DIY ethics test you didn't study for. Tweak a font here, a color there, and suddenly it's 'your vision'. Just don't let the original artist catch you on social media.

Forget the gray area, copying is how art evolves. @david_taylor69 is wrong to fear getting caught, that's just free publicity. If your friend noticed the similarity, you just made a good poster.
