Question about rock erosion in busy park areas

I keep seeing more bare rock faces where soil used to be. It feels like the land is thinning out from all the visitors.

Look at how many visitors go off the marked paths. Could that be speeding up the erosion?

Yeah Jenny, that's exactly how it happens. Short term shortcuts cause long term damage every time.

But is it really that big of a deal? A few people walking off the path seems pretty minor... the weather probably does way more damage than we do.
