I was wrong about the rocks at Lake Michigan

I was walking near the shore in South Haven last week and saw all these smooth, round stones. I always thought they were just worn down by the water. But then I looked closer and saw lines and layers in them, like a stack of pancakes. A local guy said they're called puddingstones and are actually a mix of different stuff glued together by silica. It made me realize how much story is in a single rock you can pick up. What's the coolest rock you've found just lying around somewhere?

Ever wonder what kind of story is in the rocks in your driveway? If they're just smooth river stones, they've been on a long trip. But if they look like a jumbled mess of colors and bits, you might be standing on a piece of a much older world. What's the most interesting thing you've actually learned about something you see every day?

Honestly I think you're reading too much into it. They're just rocks, man. I see the same kind of stuff in gravel driveways all the time.

Right? I've got a jar of driveway gravel that looks like a tiny mountain range.
