My 'easy' heirloom tomato seeds took 8 weeks to sprout, not 10 days

The packet said germination in 7-10 days, but I had them on a heat mat in my basement for almost two months before I saw a single green shoot. I'm starting to think some seed sellers are just guessing. Has anyone else had a specific variety take way longer than advertised?

That happened with my Brandywines last year. A good soak in warm water overnight before planting finally got them going. Some old varieties just have slower, more stubborn seeds.

My grandpa always started his Mortgage Lifter seeds in a damp paper towel inside a bread bag. He said the extra humidity tricked them into thinking spring came early. I still do that with my fussy heirlooms now.
